Aikahi

Welcome to Aikahi Preschool

Aikahi Preschool is conveniently located outside the back of Kaneohe Marine Corps base, and in the Aikahi Elementary School district. Our school will accept children from birth to pre-elementary. This allows great bonds to be created between children, families and staff. This also allows families not to worry about finding another school at any certain age. We have five classrooms, three playgrounds, and the most caring staff any preschool could ask for. We become your extended family, the aunties that live in your neighborhood. Our staff have many years of experience, and education. They are a great resources for parents.

We are currently accredited through NECPA, and works very hard to set the early learning education bar high, to motivate and educate children using Creative Curriculum. This curriculum is a learn through play curriculum which keeps the children interested and questioning his/her surroundings. This is the tool that allows our teachers the ability to ensure that every child has the same learning opportunities as others.

Our infant room is set up to make life easier for the parents. We have a freezer to store your breast milk. We also provide all Carnation Good Start/Gerber Products. We work on a feeding schedule with you, and work with you on what your child can eat based on exsposer, meaning we won’t give him/her baby foods that you haven't already introduced. We have a washer and dryer in the room, so you have less laundry to take home. Our Infant room is an air conditioned room that helps cut down on diaper rash! Please remember in the Infant room, the children are on their own schedule. If they are hungry we feed them, if they are dirty we change them, if they want to socialize and listen to stories, that's what we do! Once your child starts to walk, it is time to move up to the Toddler room.

Our Toddler room is the first experience your child will have with more of a schedule. The children eat together at the table, practice using a spoon, and learn simple sign language, like more. This is the class where they will narrow their naps to just one a day. We have many activities for them to do throughout the day. Teachers sit with them on the floor and stack blocks, sing songs, and help them discover new things in the class.

We have 2 two-year old classrooms. This is where they are taking more responsibility in the room. They are helping with setting our family style lunch tables and learning to work together to help the classroom run smoothly. Socialization is so important at this age. Children are so egocentric and need to be exposed to others and learn to be around their peers. We also help with potty training at this age, or when your child is showing signs of being ready.

Our threes and fours classroom is a combination room. This allows the younger children the opportunity to learn from the older children. It also teaches the older children empathy towards the younger children. In this classroom we use Creative Curriculum Gold, an assessment tool that allows the teacher to monitor your child's developmental progress throughout the year, and know what to include in preparing curriculum for the class. In this classroom more responsibility is placed on each child. They have letters of the week, practice writing (on their level) as we are preparing them to be prepared for Kindergarten. We have taken the "Bridging the Gap" tool from the DOE and included what they expect in new Kindergartners into our curriculum through the year. So by the end of the year, your child will be ready and have no fears as they leave our nurturing hands.
